Elaidic acid (trans-9-octadecenoic acid)

J. N. Low, C. Scrimgeour and P. Horton

Abstract: Elaidic acid, C18H34O2, has an essentially linear alkyl chain. The double bond is twisted across the mean direction of the alkyl chain in a skew', trans, skew conformation. In the crystal structure, the molecules form centrosymmetric O-H...O hydrogen-bonded dimers (O...O = 2.684 Å).
