Abstract: The title compound, C₄₃H₃₄ClPS, is an unexpected reaction product that formed in the benzylation of a dinaphthophosphepine sulfide after addition of dichloromethane in the presence of a strong base. It contains the rare functional group 2-chlorovinyl in an E configuration, with C-C bond lengths of 1.471 (2) and 1.321 (2) Å, and a C-Cl bond length of 1.725 (2) Å.
