Abstract: The polyanion of the title compound, {(C₂H₁₀N₂)_1.5[Ce(SO₄)₃(H₂O)]·2H₂O}_n, adopts a layer structure, and the cations and uncoordinated water molecules are located between the layers. One of the cations lies on a center of inversion. The compound is isostructural with the Nd analog, whose structure was recently reported [Liu, Meng, Li, Cui, Wang & Pang (2005). J. Solid State Chem. 178, 1003-1007].
