Tetrakis(₂-2,6-diformyl-4-methylphenolato)tetra-₃-hydroxo-tetrakis[diaquaneodymium(III)] tetrakis(perchlorate) ethanol disolvate

Abstract: The title compound, [Nd₄(₂-C₉H₇O₃)₄(₃-OH)₄(H₂O)₈](ClO₄)₄·2C₂H₆O, was synthesized from the ligand-controlled hydrolysis of Nd(ClO₄)₃. The cation, which lies on a crystallographic twofold axis, has four ninefold coordinated Nd^III ions and four triply bridging hydroxy groups occupying alternate vertices of a distorted cube and supported by four ₂-C₉H₇O₃ ligands. The crystal structure indicates that 2,6-diformyl-4-methylphenol is a useful supporting ligand in the synthesis of high-nuclearity Ln^III clusters.
