Abstract: The title compound [systematic name: 2,3,9,10-tetramethoxy-5,6,13,13a-tetrahydroisoquino[3,2-a]isoquinolin-8-one], C₂₁H₂₃NO₅, a protoberberine-type alkaloid, was isolated from the roots of the plant Sinomenium acutum. The piperidine ring adopts an envelope conformation and the pyridinone ring is in a screw-boat conformation.
