5-Nitro-1-(2-piperidinoethyl)-1H-benzimidazole

Abstract: The title compound, C₁₄H₁₈N₄O₂, was synthesized from 5-nitrobenzimidazolium nitrate and N-(2-chloroethyl)piperidine hydrochloride in KOH/EtOH solution. The piperidine ring has a chair conformation. The structure is stabilized by intra- and intermolecular C-HO hydrogen bonds.
