Abstract: The cation of the title salt, C13H14N3+·C8H5O4-, adopts a conformation with one of the phenyl rings lying syn and the other anti with respect to the unsubstituted N atom. The anion features a strong intramolecular hydrogen bond, with the carboxyl groups twisted out of the ring plane. Intermolecular hydrogen-bonds link anions and cations, forming chains that run parallel to the c axis.
