p-Phenylenediammonium tetraiodozincate(II) dihydrate

Abstract: The title compound, (C₆H₁₀N₂)[ZnI₄]·2H₂O, crystallizes as an organic-inorganic hybrid. The ionic layer consists of isolated ZnI₄ tetrahedra. The hydrocarbon layer has two symmetry-independant centrosymmetric p-phenylenediammonium cations that link to the ionic layer via hydrogen bonding. Two water molecules of hydration lie between the anion and the two cations.
