Abstract: The conformer present in the crystal structure of the title compound [systematic name: 1,1'-(2,3,5,6-tetramethyl-p-phenylene)dipropan-1-one], C16H22O2, lies on an inversion center and consequently has the two carbonyl groups in a trans orientation relative to the central ring. In the crystalline state, the planes of the carbonyl and attached methylene groups are at a dihedral angle of 86.50 (11)° relative to the central ring.
