Abstract: The title compound, C₂₀H₁₉NO₅, a protoberberine-type alkaloid, was isolated from the roots of the plant Sinomenium acutum. The piperidine ring adopts a screw-boat conformation and the pyridinone ring is in an envelope conformation.
