2N,N')bismuthate(III) 1,10-phenanthrolineAbstract: The asymmetric unit of the title compound, (C12H9N2)[BiI4(C12H8N2)]·C12H8N2, comprises a 1,10-phenanthrolinium cation and a tetraiodo(1,10-phenanthroline)bismuthate(III) anion, together with a neutral 1,10-phenanthroline molecule. The BiIII ion adopts a distorted octahedral coordination geometry, binding to the two N atoms of a chelating 1,10-phenanthroline ligand and four iodide ions. N-H
N and C-H
I hydrogen bonding between the 1,10-phenanthroline molecule, the 1,10-phenanthrolinium cation and the BiIII complex cation stabilize the crystal structure.
