Triaqua-[mu]3-oxo-hexa-[mu]2-propionato-[kappa]12O:O'-trichromium(III) nitrate hemihydrate

W.-S. Xia, J. Radosevich and A. Ellern

Abstract: The title compound, [Cr3(C3H5O2)6O(H2O)3]NO3·0.5H2O, has a trinuclear cluster structure with three Cr atoms in a triangle linked through a [mu]3-oxo bridge, each Cr atom having a terminal water molecule as ligand, and pairs of Cr atoms being additionally bridged by two propionate ligands. There are two chemically equivalent but independent triaqua-[mu]3-oxo-hexa-[mu]2-propionato-[kappa]12O:O'-trichromium cations, two NO3- anions and one water solvent molecule in the asymmetric unit. Extensive hydrogen bonds lead to zigzag stacks of cations along the b axis.
