Octaaquaytterbium(III) tris(3-carboxy-4-hydroxybenzenesulfonate) monohydrate

Abstract: The title compound, [Yb(H₂O)₈](C₇H₅O₆S)₃·H₂O, was synthesized by the reaction of Yb₂O₃ with 5-sulfosalicylic acid in water. The compound contains Yb(H₂O)₈³⁺ monomers; the 3-carboxy-4-hydroxybenzenesulfonate anions do not coordinate to ytterbium, but act as counter-anions.
