Tetrakis(methylammonium) benzene-1,2,4,5-tetracarboxylate dihydrate

Abstract: In the title compound, 4CH₆N⁺·C₁₀H₂O₈^4-·2H₂O, the complete C₁₀H₂O₈^4- anion is generated by inversion; one of the unique carboxylate groups is almost coplanar with the benzene ring, perhaps as the result of intramolecular C-HO interactions, and the other is almost perpendicular. A network of O-HO and N-HO hydrogen bonds helps to consolidate the crystal packing.
