Abstract: The title compound, [Fe(C10H8N2)3]Br2·4.5H2O, contains discrete tris(2,2'-bipyridyl)iron(II) cations, bromide anions and water molecules. The Fe atom (site symmetry 3) is octahedrally coordinated by six N atoms of the three bidentate bipyridyl ligands. One bromide ion occupies a site of symmetry m; the other one is located on a site of symmetry 32. All the water O atoms are also located on special positions of site symmetries 3, m (×2) and
