Abstract: The title one-dimensional coordination polymer, {[Zn2(C8H4O4)2(C10H8N2)(H2O)2]·2H2O}n, was synthesized by hydrothermal synthesis. Two asymmetric units, C13H10NO5Zn·H2O, make up each monomer, such that the benzene-1,3-dicarboxylate ligands link ZnII atoms, forming a one-dimensional linear chain, with two adjacent chains bridged by bpy ligands into a ladder running along the b axis. These ladders are assembled into three-dimensional networks via hydrogen bonds between the coordinated water and the carboxylate O atoms in adjacent ladders. Further hydrogen bonding connects uncoordinated water molecules to the coordinated water, carboxyl O atoms and other solvent water molecules.
