Abstract: A new dipolarophile for the construction of the bioactive title compound, C₁₈H₁₈N₂O, was synthesized by base-catalysed reaction of benzaldehyde with (4-methoxyphenyl)acetonitrile. The olefinic bond connecting the (4-methoxyphenyl)acetonitrile and the dimethylaminophenyl groups has a Z geometry.
