Abstract: In the title compound, [Co(NO3)(C10H8N2)2]I·4H2O, the CoII atom lies on a twofold rotation axis and is six-coordinate, with a distorted octahedral geometry. Two chelating ligands coordinate to the metal centre through the bipyridine N atoms to form five-membered rings and there is one bidentate chelating nitrate ligand. The I- anion also lies on a twofold rotation axis.
