Abstract: The title molecule, C16H22O5, is conformationally chiral. The non-ring methine C atom acts as an `asymmetric' atom owing to different orientations of carboxymethyl groups, and conformational chirality is observed in the solid state. The weak intermolecular C-H
O hydrogen bonds create a two-dimensional network in the (100) plane.
