Abstract: In the crystal structure of the title compound, [Cu(C₁₁H₉NO₅)(H₂O)₂]·2H₂O, in which N-(3-carboxy-2-hydroxybenzylidene)alaninate (H₃ALS) is the Schiff base synthesized from L-alanine with 3-carboxysalicylaldehyde, the copper(II) ion is pentacoordinated in a square-pyramidal geometry, with the HALS^2- dianion acting as a tridentate ONO-chelator in a plane, and two water molecules occupying the apical site and the remaining basal site.
