Abstract: The title compound, {(C₁₀H₁₀N₂)[Mn₂(HCO₂)₂(SO₄)₂(C₁₀H₈N₂)₂(H₂O)₂]·2H₂O}_n, consists of centrosymmetric 4,4'-bipyridinum (H₂bpy²⁺) cations, ladder-like polymeric [Mn₂(HCOO)₂(SO₄)₂(bpy)₂(H₂O)₂]_n anionic chains and solvent water molecules. The Mn atom is coordinated in a distorted octahedral geometry, and edge-shared centrosymmetric bi-octahedra are formed through monoatomically bridging formate anions. The polymeric chains are generated from binuclear units bridged by 4,4'-bipyridine (bpy) ligands and assembled into two-dimensional layers, with the voids filled with H₂bpy²⁺ cations.
