3-Methylsulfanyl-2,5-diphenyl-1-benzofuran

Abstract: The title compound, C₂₁H₁₆OS, was prepared by the Lewis acid-catalysed reaction of 4-phenylphenol with 2-chloro-2-(methylsulfanyl)acetophenone. The 1-benzofuran ring system is almost planar. The structure is stabilized by intermolecular aromatic - interactions between the benzene rings of the benzofuran group and by C-H interactions.
