Bis(tetraphenylphosphonium) octa-₃-chloro-hexakis(trifluoromethanesulfonato)-octahedro-hexamolybdate dichloromethane/diethyl ether solvate

Abstract: The crystal structure of the title compound, (C₂₄H₂₀P)₂[Mo₆C_l8(CF₃O₃S)₆]·C₄H₁₀O·CH₂Cl₂, consists of a centrosymmetric [Mo₆Cl₈]⁴⁺ cluster core that is bonded to six trifluoromethanesulfonate groups via O atoms and two tetraphenylphosphonium counter-cations. The packing of the cations and anions leads to voids with a size of ca 230 Å³ that are filled with disordered dichloromethane and diethyl ether solvent molecules. The title compound affords facile ligand substitution on the hexanuclear [Mo₆Cl₈]⁴⁺ cluster.
