Abstract: The crystal structure of the title compound, {[Cd(C₁₀H₈N₂)(H₂O)₄](C₈H₄O₄)}_n, consists of one-dimensional Cd^II complex chains and uncoordinated benzene-1,4-dicarboxylate anions. The complex chain and anion are located on twofold rotation axes, running in each case in the direction of the long axis of the organic group, and are linked to each other via O-HO hydrogen bonding.
