Abstract: The title compound, [Cu(C7H3N2O6)2(C12H16N3O3)2(H2O)2], was prepared by the reaction of 4,4,5,5-tetramethyl-2-(4-pyridyl)imidazolin-1-oxyl 3-oxide (nitronyl nitroxide), copper(II) nitrate and 3,5-dinitrobenzoic acid. The CuII ion lies on a crystallographic inversion centre and is in a distorted octahedral environment. Two N atoms from two nitronyl nitroxide and two O atoms from two 3,5-dinitrobenzoate ligands form the equatorial plane, while two O atoms from two water molecules occupy axial positions.
