Abstract: The title compound, C10H11NO3, was synthesized by the reaction of ethyl 3-aminoxy-2-benzyl-2-hydroxypropanoate with potassium hydroxide. It was found to crystallize with two independent molecules in the asymmetric unit. In the crystal structure, O-H...O and N-H...O interactions link the molecules into one-dimensional chains along the crystallographic a axis.
