Abstract: The title compound, [Co(C6H6N2O2)2(H2O)2], was obtained from Co(CH3COO)2·6H2O and 2-methylpyrazine-5-carboxylic acid. The crystal structure reveals that the Co atom is located on a crystallographic inversion center and is six-coordinated in a distorted octahedral geometry by 2-methylpyrazine-5-carboxylate anions and water molecules. The structure is stabilized both by hydrogen bonds forming a two-dimensional network parallel to the ab plane and by [pi]-[pi] stacking interactions between the 2-methylpyrazine-5-carboxylate ligands.
