Sodium 3-chloro-2-hydroxyethanesulfonate hemihydrate

Abstract: The title compound, Na⁺·C₃H₆ClO₄S^-·0.5H₂O, was synthesized from sodium hydrogen sulfite and 2-(chloromethyl)oxirane in aqueous solution. The Na⁺ ion is coordinated by six O atoms in a distorted octahedral manner.
