3-(2-Methyl-3-methylsulfanyl-1-benzofuran-5-yl)propanoic acid

Abstract: The title compound, C₁₃H₁₄O₃S, was prepared by the Lewis acid-catalysed reaction of 3-(4-hydroxyphenyl)propanoic acid with -chloro--(methylsulfanyl)acetone. The 1-benzofuran ring system is almost planar. The crystal structure is stabilized by aromatic - stacking interactions, H₂C-H interactions and inversion-related intermolecular O-HO hydrogen bonds between the carboxyl groups.
