Abstract: The title compound, [Cd(C₉H₉O₂)₂(C₁₂H₈N₂)]_n, was synthesized in a water-methanol solution and its crystal structure was determined by X-ray diffraction analysis. The Cd atoms are octahedrally coordinated by two N atoms from phenanthroline and four O atoms from four different 3,5-dimethylbenzoate ions, completing the octahedral geometry. The O atoms of the carboxylate group coordinate to Cd^II in a bidentate bridging manner. The complex shows a one-dimensional chain structure of Cd atoms bridged by 3,5-dimethylbenzoate anions.
