Abstract: The cation of the title compound, [Ir(⁵-C₅Me₅)Cl(C₁₂H₈N₂)]CF₃SO₃, contains a half-sandwich (⁵-C₅Me₅)Ir^III fragment coordinated in a ²N manner by the N atoms of a 1,10-phenanthroline ligand. The diimine ligand is inclined at an angle of 62.6 (4)° to the plane of the pentamethylcyclopentadienyl ligand.
