Abstract: The asymmetric unit of the title compound, C21H15ClN2, contains two crystallographically independent molocules. In one of the molecules, the chlorophenyl ring is disordered over two orientations; these are approximately related by a rotation through 180° about its bond with the imidazole ring. The independent molecules are linked into a chain along the a axis by N-H
N intermolecular hydrogen bonds.
