A hybrid bimetallic complex from regioselective in situ ligand oxidation: poly[([mu]-[beta]-octamolybdato-[kappa]2O:O)bis[[mu]-4-(2-pyridyl)pyridinium-3-olato-[kappa]3N,O:O]bis[4-(2-pyridyl)pyridinium-3-olato-[kappa]2N,O]dicopper(II)]

Abstract: The title compound, [Cu2(C10H8N2O)4([beta]-Mo8O26)]n, is a one-dimensional coordination polymer containing octahedrally coordinated CuII atoms, each of which is bound to three O atoms and two N atoms from three distinct regioselectively oxidized 2,4'-bipyridinium ligands and one O atom from a centrosymmetric [beta]-octamolybdate anion. The 4'-position N atoms within the ligands, as quaternary N atoms, are uncoordinated. [Cu2(2'-O--2,4'-bpyH+)4]4+ dimeric cations are linked through exobidentate [beta]-octamolybdate anions into polymeric chains running along the [011] direction. N-H...O and C-H...O interactions connect adjacent chains into a three-dimensional network.
