Aquabis(1H-imidazole-N³)bis(4-methylbenzoato-²O,O')cobalt(II)

Abstract: The Co^II centre in the title complex, [Co(C₈H₇O₂)₂(C₃H₄N₂)₂(H₂O)], has a distorted octahedral coordination geometry, involving three O atoms derived from two 4-methylbenzoate ligands, two N atoms from the imidazole ligands and a water molecule. Intermolecular O-HO and N-HO hydrogen bonds along with - stacking interactions give rise to a layer structure.
