Abstract: The structure of the title compound, 5-iodotropolone (systematic name: 2-hydroxy-5-iodocyclohepta-2,4,6-trien-1-one), C7H5IO2, features both intra- and intermolecular O-H
O hydrogen bonds. The hydrogen bonds, as well as II interactions, link the molecules into layers parallel to the b axis and one of the ac-plane diagonals of the crystal structure.
