-chlorido]]Abstract: The asymmetric unit of the title compound, {(C12H10N2)[BiCl4]}n, comprises one 1,10-phenanthrolinium dication and one Bi atom with two terminal and two bridging chloride anions. The Bi atoms adopt a distorted octahedral configuration and are each bridged to two other Bi atoms by four chloride ligands to generate a one-dimensional polymer chain running along a. C-H
Cl hydrogen bonds link the phenanthrolinium dications to these chlorobismuthate chains.
