Abstract: In the title compound, {[Cu(1,4-chdc)(L)₂]·H₂O}_n, where 1,4-chdc is the 1,4-cyclohexanedicarboxylate dianion, C₈H₁₀O₄^2-, and L is 2-methyl-1H-imidazole, C₄H₆N₂, each Cu^II atom is four-coordinated by two N atoms from two L ligands and two O atoms from two 1,4-chdc anions in a distorted tetrahedral geometry. Each 1,4-chdc ligand bridges two neighbouring Cu^II atoms in a bidentate mode, forming a unique helical chain. These chains are decorated with L ligands alternately on the two sides. O-HO and N-HO hydrogen bonds complete the structure.
