catena-Poly[[[(di-2-pyridylamine-²N²,N^2')nickel(II)]--carbonato-³O,O':O''] trihydrate]

Abstract: In the title polymer, {[Ni(CO₃)(C₁₀H₉N₃)]·3H₂O}_n, each Ni^II atom is coordinated by three O atoms from two carbonate ligands and two N atoms from one bis(2-pyridyl)amine ligand, and has a distorted square-pyramidal geometry. The compound forms infinite chains via carbonate ligands bridging the [bis(2-pyridyl)amine]nickel(II) units which are further linked into neutral layers through N-HO(carbonate) intermolecular hydrogen-bonding interactions. The water molecules form an infinite lamellar structure with an R⁵₅(10) graph-set motif. They occupy the space between the chains and are connected through O-HO hydrogen bonds to the carbonate ligands. Furthermore, weak offset - stackings stabilize the packing network [the centroid-to-centroid distance is 3.674 (1) Å and the interplanar distance 3.438 Å].
