Abstract: The title compound, [Co(C₂N₃)(NO₃)(C₁₄H₁₂N₂)]_n, exhibits a zigzag chain structure. The Co^II atom has a slightly distorted octahedral geometry formed by two N atoms of a 2,9-dimethyl-1,10-phenanthroline ligand, two N atoms from two different dicyanamide ligands and two O atoms of a nitrate anion. A one-dimensional chain is formed through the dicyanamides, which act as end-to-end bridging ligands. The chains are linked into a three-dimensional network via weak C-HO hydrogen bonds.
