A new vanadate containing helical chains

G.-M. Wang, J.-H. Li, J. Han and H.-L. Liu

Abstract: The structure of a new vanadium oxide compound, catena-poly[N,N'-bis(2-ammonioethyl)oxamide [dioxidovanadate-[mu]-oxido-dioxidovanadate-[mu]-oxido]], {(C6H16N4O2)[V2O6]}n, exhibits helical vanadate chains, constructed from corner-sharing VO4 tetrahedra. Adjacent chains are packed together by extensive hydrogen bonds involving the inorganic framework and the templating guest cations, which are centrosymmetric and occupy the free space between the stacks of chains.
