A reinvestigation of the space group of catena-poly[[[triaqua(sulfato-O)zinc(II)]--4,4'-bipyridine-²N:N'] dihydrate]

Abstract: In the title compound, {[Zn(SO₄)(C₁₀H₈N₂)(H₂O)₃]·2H₂O}_n, the N-heterocycle of (4,4'-bipyridine)triaquasulfatozinc dihydrate links the sulfate- and water-coordinated Zn atom into a helical chain that runs along the a axis of the hexagonal P6₁ unit cell; adjacent chains are linked by hydrogen bonds into a three-dimensional network. The structure is a twin, the components being nearly 50%.
