)-1,3,5,7-cyclooctatetraene]phenylplatinum(II)Abstract: In the title complex, [Pt(C6H5)Cl(C8H8)], the PtII centre lies in a square-planar environment defined by the Cl and
-bonded phenyl C atoms and the mid-points of the two
-coordinated double bonds of 1,3,5,7-cyclooctatetraene. Because of the different trans influences of the Cl atom and the phenyl group, the Pt-C bonds trans to the phenyl group are longer than those trans to the Cl atom. The asymmetric unit contains four independent molecules with identical geometry within experimental errors.
