Abstract: The chiral title compound, C17H20ClNO5, arose as a side product during the synthesis of novel furanomycin derivatives. The stereochemistry at the bicyclic core is consistent with a halolactonization step. The five-membered rings are nearly perpendicular to each other [torsion angle at the common bond: -88.3 (3)°].
