O](malonato-
2O:O)copper(II) trihydrateAbstract: In the title compound, [Cu(C3H2O4)(C12H10N2O2)(H2O)2]·3H2O, a CuII center with `4+1' Jahn-Teller-distorted square-pyramidal coordination is bound by a chelating malonate dianion, two aqua ligands and a monodentate Z-4,4'-ethylenedipyridine N,N'-dioxide ligand. Three uncoordinated water molecules cocrystallize with each complex molecule. Individual molecules are connected into one-dimensional ribbons and two-dimensional sheets through extensive hydrogen-bonding patterns mediated by both aqua ligands and water molecules of crystallization.
