Di-[mu]-acetato-[kappa]4O:O'-[mu]-oxido-[kappa]2O:O-bis[(acetic acid-[kappa]O)bis(1H-imidazole-[kappa]N3)magnesium(II)]

Abstract: Magnesium acetate crystallizes upon reaction with imidazole in dimethylformamide at elevated temperatures to form the title magnesium acetate imidazole cluster species, [Mg2(C2H3O2)2O(C3H4N2)4(C2H4O2)2], with two Mg atoms in octahedral coordination. The complex has crystallographic twofold rotation symmetry. Each Mg atom is coordinated by two imidazole ligands, two linking acetate bridging ligands, a terminal acetic acid ligand, and a bridging O atom lying on the symmetry axis.
