-4,4'-Bipyridine-
2N:N'-bis[aqua(nitrato-
O)(1,10-phenanthroline-
2N,N')copper(II)] dinitrateAbstract: The title compound, [Cu2(NO3)2(C10H8N2)(C12H8N2)2(H2O)2](NO3)2, comprises a binuclear copper complex cation and two nitrate anions. In the doubly-charged bridged dicopper cation, each Cu atom is five-coordinated in a distorted square-pyramidal geometry, formed by one O atom of the coordinated water molecule, one O atom of a coordinated nitrate anion, two N atoms from the bidentate 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) ligand and another N atom from the 4,4'-bipyridine (bipy) ligand. The bipy ligand bridges the Cu atoms to give a centrosymmetric binuclear structure. The complex is stabilized by hydrogen bonds and aromatic ring-stacking interactions [average interplanar distance 3.3139 (2) Å and ring-centroid separation 3.7971 (9) Å.
