Abstract: The title complex, [Cu(H2O)6](C6H5SO4)2, was synthesized hydrothermally. The [Cu(H2O)6]2+ cations lie on centres of symmetry and exhibit tetragonally elongated coordination geometry, typical of Jahn-Teller-distorted CuII complexes. An extensive network of O-H
O hydrogen bonds between the coordinated water molecules and the sulfonate groups of the anions links the molecules into layers. The hydroxy groups of the anions form O-H
O hydrogen bonds that link between layers.
