Dichlorido(dimethyl sulfoxide-O)(1,10-phenanthroline-5,6-dione-²N,N')copper(II) dimethyl sulfoxide monohydrate

Abstract: The title compound, [CuCl₂(C₁₂H₆N₂O₂)(C₂H₆OS)]·C₂H₆OS·H₂O, was obtained by the reaction of 1,10-phenanthroline-5,6-dione (phendione) and CuCl₂·2H₂O. The copper(II) ion is pentacoordinated in a distorted square-pyramidal environment. The water molecule connects the complex and a dimethyl sulfoxide solvent molecule by O-HO and O-HCl hydrogen bonds.
