4-2-hydroxyphosphonoacetato(3-)]iron(II)]Abstract: The title compound, NaFe[(O3PCH(OH)CO2)] or {Na[Fe(C2H2O6P)]}n, was synthesized under mild hydrothermal conditions. The FeII ion is octahedrally coordinated; all O atoms from the 2-hydroxyphosphonoacetate(3-) are involved in metal coordination. The overall structure can be described as a three-dimensional open framework with channels running along the a axis and with the charge?compensating Na+ cations located inside these channels. This architecture is further stabilized by a number of O-H
O hydrogen bonds involving the protonated hydroxyl O atoms and carboxylate O atoms.
