2O,O')chloridocadmium(II)]-
-2,2'-diphenyl-1,1'-(butane-1,4-diyl)diimidazole-
2N3:N3']Abstract: The title CdII coordination polymer, [Cd(C7H5O2)Cl(C22H22N4)]n, was obtained by reaction of CdCl2·2.5H2O, benzoic acid (HL) and 2,2'-diphenyl-1,1'-(butane-1,4-diyl)diimidazole (bbip). Each CdII cation is five-coordinated by a ClO2N2 donor set in a distorted trigonal-bipyramidal geometry. In the bbip ligand, three C atoms and one N atom are disordered equally over two positions; another two C atoms are disordered over two positions, the site-occupancy ratio being 0.6:0.4. The bbip ligand acts as a bridging bidentate ligand, linking CdII centres into a one-dimensional zigzag chain; adjacent chains are further connected through face-to-face

interactions between the imidazole rings [with an average face-to-face distance of 3.560 (8) Å], resulting in the formation of a two-dimensional supramolecular layer.
